Catalysing positive change in Education

The Sasol Foundation was established in 2008 with a single goal – to reform and improve South African Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.

Today the foundation has become a formidable force in addressing the systemic challenges facing STEM education and skills development in South Africa. It has done so working in partnership with the Department of Basic Education and other key stakeholders in the education sector.

Over R10 million learners accessed the Foundation’s open source workbooks in South Africa and beyond.

Initiated and Annual Technical Teachers' Conference (ATTC) reaching approximately 400 teachers yearly.

13 Technical high schools are supported in South Africa reaching over 7 000 learners annually.

Programmes

STEM in Schools

The COVID-19 pandemic has fundamentally changed education and its effects will be felt well into the future. To prepare for the ‘new’ normal, in 2021 we expanded our role to support lots more digital teaching and learning.

Tertiary Education

The foundation invests in tertiary education to help individuals build the skills they need to participate in the economy, contribute to social development and become responsible, self-reliant citizens.

Early Childhood Education

In 2019 the foundation developed a blueprint for a best-in-class ECD/E model which was subsequently endorsed by the Department of Basic Education.

Technical Education

The Sasol Foundation has played a pivotal role in embedding technical subjects, building teacher capacity and providing the resources needed for technical education to succeed and thrive.

Psychsocial Support

Psychosocial support, provided through Independent Counselling and Advisory Services, is critical to ensuring that students cope with personal and mental health challenges.
